Hi and welcome to the April / May newsletter . Sorry , I haven’t had time to get this completed and posted out , so have combined them !!!!!
On behalf of the club , a warm welcome goes to new members Patrick Donlan and David Brockbank, hope to see you at some of the events. A belated list of all club events has been posted on the website ( also enclosed in postal letter to all members). Trevor has received confirmation that the alternative courses have been accepted and safe to use. On behalf of the club , a very happy birthday goes to Jayne and Trevor Tennick , who both had milestone birthdays , Jayne on the 11th April and Trevor on the 11th May . Many congratulations to you both , fantastic way to celebrate !!!! On the 7th April , it was the Rutland CC 10 at Hatfield Woodhouse , with 6 Thurcroft riders facing the timekeepers. Fastest of our riders was Tony Medlock with a time of 23.43 for an overall position of 21st from 57 finishers. Other Thurcroft riders were Tony Morris (26.43-49th) , Robert Eyre (27.07-51st) , Brian Orgill (27.15-53rd) , Deborah Barber (28.23-55th) and Rachael Eyre (28.56-56th) , well done to you all.. The first round of the evening series took place on the 11th April with 11 riders competing , with Hillary Dowling taking maximum points , with a handicap time of 12.46 and actual time of 18.46. Well done to all riders. On the 21st , it was the VTTA open 25 , with 3 Thurcroft riders entered. Gary Bates set the fastest time of the year so far by a Thurcroft rider with a time of 1.02.36. Tony Morris finished in 1.11.07 with Brian Orgill a none starter. On the 24th , it was the 2nd event in the inter club series , on the Cuckney / Carburton circuit . Thurcroft had a fantastic turn out of 18 riders compete , and with the Phoenix having 19 finishers ( 1 rider punctured ) retained the overall lead . Andy Whitehead was our fastest rider with a time of 18.25 , being pushed close by Steve Smith (18.28) and Gary Bates (18.34). Well done to everyone and especially to the 5 lady riders and 2 youth riders that finished with very respectable times. On the provisional results only , we are still in the lead by 14 points !!!!! Another good turn out is needed for event 3 , which is again at Cuckney , on the 15th May , with a start time of 7pm. The 28th saw the 2nd of our club championship time trials , the 25 . Andy Whitehead was once again the fastest with an excellent time of 58.38 on the Hatfield Woodhouse course. The 29th saw the first of our open road races , with the event for E,1,2,3 riders over 90km held in cold and overcast conditions . Two of the entry on the line riders to get a ride instigated the race winning break , these being Adam Blythe (Team SIS-Trek) and Thurcrofts own Russell Downing (Team Healthnet-Maxxis) . Russell attacked with 2 laps to go and stayed away to win the event convincingly , with Adam taking a fine 3rd place. The event promoter would like to thank everyone who turned out to marshal /cater and judge the event , without you club members , we would be unable to promote any of our events. On the 5th , saw our own open 10 incorporating the district GHS final. In the open 10 , we attracted a full field of 120 riders. Thurcroft had 12 riders compete , with Steve Tompkin being the fastest with a time of 23.24 for an overall finishing position of 31st. In the GHS , Thurcroft had 4 riders representing the club with Thomas Saville and Robert Eyre both winning their respective age category . Matthew Brockbank finished 3rd and Daniel Hopkin 4th in their own age groups. Well done to everyone.. Many thanks go to all members and friends of Thurcroft who helped out and made the event a fantastic success. The day after (6th) saw the 4th round of the Rudy Project National series , over a 26.5 mile rolling course , promoted by Doncaster Wheelers. Thurcoft’s sole representative being Ian Sutherland , finishing with a time of 1.15.11 , finishing 24th.. Well done Ian. Many congratulations go to Jayne and Trevor , who on the 12th May took part in the Bealach-na-ba cycle challenge in Scotland. Held over 43 miles , and including 6,200 feet of climbing , including the longest single climb in the United Kingdom , the Bealach-na-ba. Trevor suffered one puncture , although he managed to outsprint Jayne at the end , Trevor finished the course in 7 hours 6 minutes and 3 seconds for an overall finishing position of 464th , with Jayne just behind in 7 .06.06 for a place of 465th. I’m sure they have many stories to tell , although I’m not going to listen as I have entered the 90 mile event , over many of the same roads but 47 miles longer , which takes place in September !!!!! The 15th May saw the 3rd event in this years inter club series and 14 Thurcroft riders took part. Fastest of our own and fastest overall in the points was Andy Whitehead with a time of 35.42. Guest rider Adam Blythe was the fastest on the night with a time of 34.35 , but does not count towards the inter club points. The Phoenix had 16 riders compete and have currently moved into the lead , by 205 points , there are of course another 5 events left , so hopefully we will be able to overturn this deficit. Next event is our own promotion on Tuesday 5th June at Ranskill , an excellent 9 mile circuit . If you are unable to ride and are in a position to help out , we will need timekeepers and marshals , please contact Trevor or Steve Tompkin.
